“I had these made by Doug and Roly. NCH was originally a Methodist charity that from 1869 opened orphanages, later childrens homes, and later still lots of projects to support vulnerable children, young people and their families. (NCH(O) = National Children’s Home (and Orphanage) in late 80s/early 90s I was responsible for supporting care leavers and homeless young people in the city of Salford. The Big Bike Ride was a fundraising event where groups and individuals gained sponsorship and raised money for what was by then “NCH Action for Children”. One of my members of staff took 4 of the young people we were supporting to Israel to take part in a bike ride around the Dead Sea. One of them was a Pakistani Heritage young woman, of whom El Al was extremely suspicious and came very close to abusing her. The sale of the models offset the costs of taking ‘my’ group to Israel.”
